If you’re familiar with the edgy, yet endearing style of pop band MUNA, then you likely wouldn’t be surprised by lead vocalist Katie Gavin’s incredible versatility.
Last week, the singer-songwriter and musician brought her very first headlining “What A Relief” tour to Brighton Music Hall — in promotion of her debut solo album under the same name.
During her December 14th stop in Boston, MA, Katie Gavin radiated an intimate, cozy energy from the moment she stepped on stage. At both corners of the stage were two small tables, adorned with an assortment of glowing salt lamps, candles, and two mugs, in which Gavin ceremoniously poured steaming tea from a strawberry-red pot. It all felt warm and intentional.
Gavin began her set with “Today,” a tender, melodious track about loneliness — and yet Gavin’s vocals and steady acoustic guitar made the space feel otherwise. This opening track along with the rest of her setlist have an atmospheric quality that invites you to listen closer and feel deeper. If Katie Gavin’s new solo venture has shown us anything, it’s that true artists stop at nothing to defy expectations and tell their stories however they feel is most authentic to their unraveling self-discovery.
